This month, we went around to all of the classes and gave a survey. The survey asked the students where they were going for Thanksgiving. Most children at the Maple Street School are staying in New England for Thanksgiving. . . . In fact, most students are staying in New Hampshire! (84) Take a look at the graph above to see how many people are going where! On the pie chart above, we show where people are going for Thanksgiving. Aside from the United States, we got a survey saying that one student plans to go to Brazil for Thanksgiving, and we thought that was pretty cool.

In the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving in the month of November. Years ago, it was said that people, or Pilgrims, moved to North America in search of land. They found land, and met Native Americans. At first, Native Americans and Pilgrims didn’t really like each other. The Native Americans felt that the Pilgrims were invading their land. But, as time went on, the Native Americans and Pilgrims began to get along much better. Because they then got along, the Pilgrims and Native Americans had a feast, grateful to have so much food, and to be healthy because many people who came to America lost their loved ones on the way. This day is now called Thanksgiving, a day where you gather with your family and give thanks for the food on the table, the people around you, and anything else that you are grateful for. You can learn more about Thanksgiving in our “What a Feast!” article on page 7.
